Bottom Filling HP 500 & 600 Printers
C6614A, 51626A and 51629A Black Cartridges
|
| |
|
This procedure requires that you have a syringe (12 cc or 30 cc) and one of our Snap & Fill
Adapters. No tape, plugs, tools, needles or other accessories are required. This procedure was
intended for the new HP black cartridges (51626A & 51629A) that
don't have a top fill hole. However, it will work on both versions of these cartridges just fine.
No taping, drilling or sealing of the cartridge is necessary.
|

Note: The new Snap & Fill is direct connect, no tubing.

1. |
A freshly emptied cartridge works best. If the cartridge has been out of the printer awhile,
you may need to unclog the dried ink from the nozzles before the cartridge will accept the full
amount of ink. See FAQ's page. Snap the cartridge
into the Snap & Fill. The bottom of the cartridge goes on the end where the syringe attaches.
Keep the cartridge centered. You do not have to do anything to prepare the cartridge for
filling, it is ready to go, as is. Spread out some newspaper to work on, just incase you
spill some ink.
|
| |
 |
2. |
Fill the syringe with ink. It takes about 20 cc to fill the cartridge. If you have a 12 cc
syringe you will have to fill it twice to complete the filling process. Be sure there is
no air in the syringe. Point the syringe up, and push the air out, just like the Nurse does.
Attach the Snap & Fill to the syringe. No needle is required. The end of the syringe
will twist lock onto the Snap & Fill.
|
| |
 |
3. |
Keep the end of the Snap & Fill that has the fitting on it up, with the syringe pointed down. Inject the ink slowly
into the cartridge. It will only take about 10 seconds to empty the ink into the cartridge.
If you need more ink, refill the syringe as needed. Don't put more than 24 cc of ink into the
cartridge. You should feel some resistance when injecting the ink. Air will exit through the
print head. You may get a little spray from the air exiting the cartridge. Make sure the bottom
of the cartridge is pointing up.
Note: If you have trouble getting the ink to go into the cartridge, some or all of the print
head nozzles may be clogged which blocks air from escaping. Soak just the print head in about 1/4
inch of hot water for a couple of hours, then try refilling again. If you are still having
problems getting the ink in, use our ammonia and water treatment described on the
FAQ's page.

4. |
This step is very important. In order to keep the ink from leaking out the bottom of the cartridge,
a little vacuum is needed inside the cartridge in order to inflate the internal bladder bags. To
do this simply pull back on the syringe about 5 to 10 cc worth. When you do this, the print head
should still be pointing upward.
|
| |
 |
5. |
Remove the cartridge from the Snap & Fill and place it on a paper towel for awhile
to make sure it is not leaking. Do not let the print head touch the paper towel or it will wick
the ink out of the cartridge. Make sure the cartridge is not leaking, head down. If it is you must
go back to step 4 and apply more vacuum using the syringe.
|
| |
 |
6. |
If ALL leaking has stopped, clean the print head by blotting it with paper towel. Install
the cartridge in the printer and run a couple of cleaning cycles and you are done. If you just want to store it
as a spare, seal the print head with our special blue HP Sealing Tape found on the
Accessories page. Do not put any other kind
of tape on the print head, it will clog the jets. If you have done this before, it should
only take about 10 minutes, total. The first time, will take longer until you get used to doing it.
Clean the syringe and Snap & Fill with warm water before you put them away.
