WARNING: DO NOT PUT A CARTRIDGE WITHOUT A CHIP ON IT INTO THE PRINTER - IT WILL
CAUSE FATAL DAMAGE TO PRINTER !!!

|
The new Epson cartridges have chips on them. If a chip gets damaged, it can be replaced.
It is quite simple to either install a new chip, or to remove a chip from a working cartridge
and install it on one that isn't working. These are the instructions for the chip installation.
We have spare chips for sale if you need one. Click
here to find the chips. They are $1.95 each.
If you have an old cartridge, you can reset the chip and return it to the Full condition. Use
the SK168 chip resetter. The SK168 will only work
on standard type chip, not on the autoreset chips.

| |
| 1. |
Move your cartridges to the left removal position by pushing the orange button (890/1280) or hold
the paper feed button in (older printers). When the cartridges arrive at the removal position,
PULL THE POWER PLUG FOR THE PRINTER OUT OF THE WALL AND DISCONNECT THE
INTERFACE CABLE (USB OR PARALLEL).
Remove the cartridges and then continue with step 2.
The power must be disconnected so that any corrupt data stored in the printer does not
get written to the new chips causing them to fail prematurely.
|
| |
| 2. |
To get chip off. Use a single sided razor blade and remove excess plastic from the top
post holding the chip in place. Don't touch the bottom post. (On a new virgin empty
cartridge that has never had a chip on it, this step is not necessary.)
|
| |
| 3. |
Use a knife blade or thin screw driver blade to pry chip off of cartridge.
|
| |
| 4. |
Slide new chip on to lower post. Don't try to force it over the excess plastic on the
lower post. Take advantage of the U channel in the chip. When it is captured, then press
the chip onto the top post.
|
| |
| 5. |
If the chip is loose, remove it and then use a SMALL amount of super glue or equivalent
on the back side of the chip to keep it in place. CAUTION... do not get any glue on the
gold pads. If the chip snapped in place you will not need any glue.
|
| |
| 6. |
Re-install the cartridges in the printer. Slide the cartridges back to the far right by hand.
Then TURN ON THE PRINTER POWER and reconnect the interface cable.

WARNING: DO NOT PUT A CARTRIDGE WITHOUT A CHIP ON IT INTO THE PRINTER - IT WILL
CAUSE FATAL DAMAGE TO PRINTER !!!
If you insert a cartridge that does not have a chip on it down into the cartridge holder, the
small metal fingers that normally make contact with the chip will get caught inside the cavity
for the chip. Then when you pull the cartridge out, these fingers will get bent and the printer
will be ruined. DON'T DO THIS !! The symptoms of this being done, is a constant red light on
the printer regardless of the chip condition. The contact fingers never touch the chip again.
