Paul's Notes on C82 EZ B&W Neutral
This ink gives the print a slight "selenium" tone, that is the magenta reading is slightly more than the cyan reading.
The EEM 50% printed last night reads c=.62, m=.62, y=.61, v=.62 this morning.
The EEM just printed and blow-dried reads v=0.63 at 50%. The PhotoRag just printed reads 59, and is 0.01 unit warm as
opposed to the EEM 0.01 cool.
The dmax with the EEM is 1.58 when first printed, 1.59 the next day. With PhotoRag it's 1.59 at first, then 1.60 the
next day (with Eboni). The ISC dmax is 1.58. (Entrada's is awful -- 1.44; PremierArt not much better at 1.46. It's critical
to get the "right" papers -- which now means EEM for cheap, PhotoRag for current cotton, and ISC when available.
Because there are no radical separation curves, etc. the ramps are artifact free -- probably better than any partitioned
quad. Of course, the dots, measured with a 1600 dpi scan and the Photoshop Histogram are about twice that of the 1280 UT
system with it's partitioned curves.
Of course, the neat trick of putting a warm cart in the Y spot for slightly warm and M spot for medium warm tones is a
neat trick that should be promoted. Unfortunately, it burns up some ink with the cleaning cycle.
The MIS UT inks and C82 EZ on cotton should be much more archival and on EEM or cotton more lightfast than the
HP inks. It would be nice to do some comparisons. The HP ink is only acceptable at all on the one swellable
paper. That is really limited.
Paul's Notes on C82 EZ B&W Warm
The affordable "carbon on cotton" archival printer is ready.
The dmax might not be top end, but there have been worse out there that have been accepted. For a low cost approach
it is not bad.
The best cotton paper may be Permajet's "ISC." It matches the EEM dmax of 1.55. PhotoRag hits 1.57. I'm not
thrilled with PhotoRag's optical brighteners or surface flaking, but it is the cotton paper of choice on the
forum. The PhotoRag 50% patch is 0.57; the ISC 50% patch reads 0.61 -- right on the mark. The ramp and image
quality with "Best Photo" and then "No Color Adjustment" and High Speed Off are nearly perfect.
On PremierArt's new paper that is believed to be the Epson Scrapbook paper, the C82 with Eboni in the black spot
prints very well, but with a dmax of only 1.46.
