Archival Inks. These inks have been specially formulated for
Epson desktop printers. They are a fully pigmented ink which has an extremely high
degree of UV resistance and high water resistance. The estimated archival life will
exceed the Epson inks by many times when used with archival paper.
They have been tested by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and rated to last 49 years
under display conditions. Click here to see the RIT
test results. We also have done some accelerated testing internally to compare our ink to
Lysonic™ and Epson™ inks. See our internal fade
testing results. For more information on these inks, see our
FAQ page.
We have brand new cartridges that are pre filled with the archival ink. These are available
for the all Epson printers. See the archival cartridges
page.
For exceptional savings, you can refill your own cartridges. We have a complete series of
archival refill
kits for the Epson printers. Each kit contains a set of virgin empty cartridges,
which is required to avoid the mixing of archival and non archival inks.
The archival inks require some color strengthening to match the look of the original Epson inks.
This can be accomplished several ways. The easiest is to boost the cyan, magenta, yellow and brightness
sliders on the Epson print driver software to +15. Other methods include using
color management software, like
Color Vision Print Fix Pro or by adjusting the color curves in Photoshop. Because the
MIS Archival inks are pigmented, the colors are not as vibrant or bright as the Epson dyebase colors,
but close enough to make beautiful prints.
We are working on a standard Profile Library for the MIS Archival Inks and papers. It is a
work in progress. We will show you how to download the profile files and to apply them
in Photoshop. Using a standard profile simplifies the entire process of making an archival
color print. Click on the Profile Library
link in our sub menu on the right for more information.
Cleaning Cartridges -
The use of a Cleaning Cartridge is strongly recommended. You must use a cleaning cartridge when
switching to MIS Archival Ink, from one of the none-compatible inks
in your printer, like Luminous, or Lyson. These inks have an acidic pH and will
form sludge or particles if mixed with Epson or MIS ink. This can definitely damage your printer
and cause permanent banding. A cleaning cartridge neutralizes the acidic ink so the MIS or Epson
ink can be used. If you don't have this situation, see our
purging page and use the images below to
"print out" the previous ink.
Download purge.zip (59kb)
to get these test patterns and others.
To expand the file you will need WinZip for PC's or
Stuffit for Mac's
