The MIS GP Archival Inkset -
This is the MIS DESKTOP version of the Epson UltraChrome™ ink for use in the Desktop
printers (780/785/860/870/875/880/890/895/900/980/1160/1200/1270/1280/1290/2000P). They are
designed to work on matte finish paper or on glossy papers. Pigment ink on glossy paper
has been a problem until now. This new ink looks great on Epson Premium Glossy, and Kirkland Glossy.
When changing to these inks on a wide format Epson printer (3000/5000/7000/ 7500/9000/9500) you
MUST flush the printer with MIS cleaning fluid. Use the MIS
cleaning cartridges and follow the purge insturctions on the
purging page.
No flushing or purging is required for the Epson desktop printers. All of the old ink will be gone after running
2 or 3 cleaning cycles.

The MIS GP Archival ink is not for use on any of the Epson
Ultrachrome printers that use either the Dura-Bright™ or the UltraChrome™ Epson inks.
This includes the C80, C82, 2100, 2200, 7600, 9600 and 10600. Use the MIS
7600 Archival Inks for these printers.
It comes in 7 colors, 2 blacks and 5 colors. The reason for the 2 blacks, is that for printing
on glossy surfaces, a different black is required. Photo black is used for glossy paper. It has
a high Dmax (2.3) on Epson Premium Glossy, but a low Dmax (1.5) on matte finish paper. The
Matte Black (Eboni) is used for matte finish papers and has a Dmax of 1.72 on Epson Archival
Matte, but on Glossy surfaces it solarizes and has transparency effects. If you print with
glossy paper predominantly, then use the Photo Black. Note: The Epson UltraChrome™ inks
have the same issues.
For those who must alternate between Glossy and Matte finish papers, there is an alternative
ink, which we call Universal Black (MK). MK will print on glossy and matte finish papers and has
a good Dmax. However, it is not as fade resistant as the other black inks. It has some dye in
it, while the other black inks are pure pigment blacks. The dye limits the fade resistance to
the equivalent of about 40 Wilhelm years (our estimate). But it is a good compromise when
you can not switch cartridges easily.

Note: To avoid confusion with the 4 different black inks, pay attention to the last
letter of our part number. K = Matte Eboni Black, MK = Universal Matte Black,
PK = Photo Black, and LK = Light Black. Our inksets come with Universal Matte Black (MK) and
Photo Black (PK). Sorry this is so confusing. We did not create these issues, just trying to clarify them.

These are brand new cartridges. It is a good way to try the inks out before purchasing
bulk quantities.
|
Our preliminary fade testing shows that our inks out last the Epson inks when exposed to Miami
Sunlight for prolonged periods of time (400+ hours). We have not concluded all of our side
by side testing, but we are confident that our inks are as good or better than the Epson inks
in terms of fade resistance.
The inks have a 2 year, room temperature, shelf life, and will not settle or fall out during
this period. We have not experienced any clogging or performance problems with our inks in
Epson cartridges, or in aftermarket cartridges.
This second set of Epson equivalent Ultrachrome inks (GP) was necessary due to the high pigment content
of the 7600 inks. The drivers for the Ultrachrome printers were set up to handle this ink and
to make great images on both glossy and matte finish papers. The older desktop drivers, were
not set up to handle the high pigment load inks. The Ultrachrome printers put down much less
ink than the Desktop printers. This is to compensate for the high pigment load. If the 7600
inks are used in the desktop printers, they produce solarization, excess surface ink, and flat
(non glossy) spots on the prints. The MIS GP Archival inks do not have these issues, but still
make great glossy and matte prints.
