The MIS 7600 Archival Inkset - for Epson C80, C82, C84, C86, 2200, 4000, 7600, 9600 Printers
This is the MIS version of the Epson UltraChrome™ ink used in the new 2200, 4000,
7600, and 9600 printers. They are designed to work on matte finish paper or on
glossy papers. Pigment ink on glossy paper has been a serious problem until now. This
new ink looks great on Epson Premium Glossy, and even greater on fine art matte finish papers.
|
When changing to these inks on a wide format Epson printer (3000/5000/7000/7500/7600/9000/9500/9600) you
MUST flush the printer with MIS cleaning fluid. Use the MIS
cleaning cartridges and follow the purge instructions on the
purging page.
No flushing or purging is required for the Epson desktop printers. All of the old ink will be gone after running
2 or 3 cleaning cycles.
|
This new ink is ideal for use on any of the Epson printers that use either the Dura-Bright™
or the UltraChrome Epson inks. This includes the C80, C82, C64, C84, C66, C86, 2100, 2200, 4000, 7600, 9600 and
10600. For any of the other Epson printers, we recommend the
GP Archival Inks.
The inksets come in 8 colors, 3 blacks and 5 colors. The reason for the 3 blacks, is that
for printing on glossy surfaces, a different black is required. Photo black is used for
glossy paper. It has a high Dmax (2.1) on Epson Premium Glossy, but a low Dmax (1.5) on matte
finish paper. The Matte Black (Eboni) is used for matte finish papers and has a Dmax of 1.75
on Epson Archival Matte, but on Glossy surfaces it solarizes and has transparency issues. If
you print with glossy paper predominantly, then use the PhotoBlack. Note: The Epson
UltraChrome inks have the same issues.
For those who must alternate between Glossy and Matte finish papers, there is an alternative
ink, which we call Universal Black (MK). It will go on glossy and matte finish papers and has
good Dmax. However, it is not as fade resistant and the other blacks. It has some dye in
it, while the other blacks are pure pigment blacks. The dye limits the fade resistance to
the equivalent of about 40 Wilhelm years (our estimate). But it is a good compromise when
you can not switch cartridges easily.
The seven cartridge machines (2200, 7600, 9600) and drivers are equipped to handle 2 pigment
blacks, a high density black, and a medium or light black, plus 5 pigment colors (C,M,Y,Pc,Pm).
However, they set themselves as photo black machines or matte black, depending on the first cartridge
the machine sees. You must follow the change over procedure in the Epson manual to change from
matte black to photo black or visa-versa. It can not be done by simply plugging in the other black
cartridge, the printer will not recognize it until the change over procedure is completed.

Note: To avoid confusion with the 4 different black inks, pay attention to the last letter
of our part number. K = Matte Eboni Black, MK = Universal Matte Black,
PK = Photo Black, and LK = Light Black. Our inksets comes with Eboni Black (K),
Photo Black (PK), and Light Black (LK). Universal Black (MK) must be ordered separately.
Sorry this is so confusing. We did not create these issues, just trying to resolve them.

Ink Properties-
Our preliminary fade testing shows that our inks out last the Epson inks when exposed to Miami
Sunlight for prolonged periods of time (400+ hours). We have not concluded all of our side
by side testing, but we are confident that our inks are as good or better than the Epson inks
in terms of fade resistance.
The inks have a 2 year, room temperature, shelf life, and will not settle or fall out during
this period. You do not have to shake our inks before installing a cartridge in the printer.
We have not experienced any clogging or performance problems with our inks in
Epson cartridges, or in aftermarket cartrdiges. These inks have a high pigment load and are
therefore more expensive to manufacture.
Refilling is Easy - Read Instructions
We now have the Chip Resetter for the 7600, 9600 and
10600 cartridges. This means that refilling is not only possible, it is easy, and the savings are
significant. The 110 ml cartridge can be refilled for $18 vs $40 for a prefilled one. You can refill
the Epson cartridges that came with the printer or you can purchase
empties from us and fill them.
Our inks will mix with the Epson UltraChrome inks with out major problems. We recommend that you flush
out wide format printers before installing our 7600 Ultrachrome equivalent inks. On both desktop and
wide format we recommend that you change all of the inks at the same time. If this is not done, there
may be color balance issues. A Chip Resetter is required to put the
chip back to full after the ink has been used.(Caution: do not mix UltraChrome inks with Dyebase Inks).
Note, that there is additional savings in refilling, because Epson leaves about
30% of the ink in the cartridge when the chip says it is empty. We do not recommend you try to use this
left over ink by resetting the chip to full and printing until all the ink is gone. There is no
mechanical safety stop on the 7600/9600 cartridges to prevent air from being sucked into the print
head when the ink is all gone. The older 7000/9000 cartridges did have a saftety stop, but they
eliminated it on the new machine. The cartridge chip is supposed to prevent this. If you refill
the cart with ink, and then reset the chip, you will be using up the left over ink.
More Info. . . . .
For the C70, C80, C82, C84, 2100 and 2200 printers, a chip resetter (
SK168) is available and the Epson cartridges can be refilled, but it is not easy. Aftermarket empties
are available that are Refill Friendly for the C80.
Later this year the Refill Friendly carts for the C82 and 2200 will become available.
For all the other Epson printers (2000P, 1280, 1200, 1160, 980..., etc) use the MIS GP Archival
inks for printing on glossy surfaces. This ink is a derivative of the 7600 (Epson Ultrachrome
equivalent) ink. It has less of a pigment load and can be printed by the desktop drivers with
the same results as the 7600 ink. See the
GP Archival Ink page for more information.
