Your CFS cartridges have Auto Reset chips on them if you ordered after 4/28/03.

Each time the printer power is turned on the chips will reset themselves to full. If you need to reset the ink levels, simply turn off the printer power, wait 10 seconds, and turn the power back on. This resets the chips. Note: Some newer chip types will not allow the ink level to reset until the "low ink" warning has been indicated. The "low ink" light normally comes on when the ink level is below 20%.

For some of the latest Epson printers, C120, 1400, R1900, R260, RX580 and RX680, the chips reset when the ink level is below 80% empty and the cartridges are lifted out of the printer. These chips are called "Quick Reset Chips" in our product descriptions. They are very similar to the Auto Reset chips, A chip resetter is not needed. These Quick Reset chips can be used for refilling and for Continuous Flow Systems.

The actual ink level inside the cartridges is kept full by the CFS unit. The ink level displayed on your screen by the Epson monitoring system is not the true ink level inside the cartridges. It is what the monitoring system and chips are indicating.

Get in the habit of turning your printer off after you finish a large print job or at the end of the day.

When the printer comes on and the chips get reset, you will see a message from Epson that says these are not authentic Epson chips, and it will ask if you wish to continue. Just click on the YES button and start printing.
