Here are the supplies and tools you will need to refill either an Epson 4000, 7600 or 9600 wide format cartridge.
  • MIS Wide Format Chip Resetter
  • 60 cc Syringe
  • MIS 7600 Fill Adapter
  • 4 oz bottle of ink for a 7600 110 ml cartridge
  • 2 four oz bottles of ink for a 9600 220 ml cartridge
  • Orange Pony Clamp (optional)
  • Newspaper, paper towels and a safe place to work

1.   If the cartridge is not new, then the chip must be reset. Follow the chip resetter instructions to reset the chip on the cartridge. When the chip has been successfully reset the light on the chip resetter will flash. If the chip can not be reset, then the light on the resetter will not flash. Be sure your resetter has the battery installed before attempting to use it.

2.   Locate the hole in the center of the end of the cartridge. It is a small hole about 1/8" in diameter with a black rubber seal showing. Stand the cartridge on end so the fill hole is pointing upward. If you have one of our orange clamps, it is handy to use to keep the cartridge standing upright.

3.    Unwrap the syringe and remove the safety cap. It is a luer twist lock. Attach the MIS 7600 Filling Adapter to the syringe. If the syringe will not fit into the 4 oz bottle, then pour the ink into a small cup and fill the syringe to the 60cc mark with ink. Make sure you have no air or foam in the syringe. Next, insert the fill adapter into the center of the black rubber seal on the cartridge. Push the adapter all the way in. You will have to hold it there because there is a spring inside the cartridge that will want to push it out.

4.    Slowly inject the 60 cc of ink into the cartridge. When the syringe is empty, remove it, and refill it.

For the 110 ML cartridges (7600) you only need to put in a total of 100 cc, so refill your syringe with 40 cc of ink. Always make sure the air is expelled from the syringe before injecting the ink.

For the 220 ML cartridges (9600) you will need a total of 210 cc of ink. So refill your syringe with 60 cc, then 60cc the second time, and the next time 60 cc again, and on the last injection 30 cc. Always make sure the air is expelled from the syringe before injecting the ink.

We recommend leaving about 10 cc of space in the cartridge. If filled to the maximum amount, the cartridges have a tendency to squirt ink out on to the paper when printing.

5.    On the last syringe full of ink, after it has all been injected, keep the fill adapter in the cartridge and pull back on the syringe plunger to remove any trapped air that may be in the cartridge. When you pull back on the plunger, you should get a small amount of ink back into the syringe, about 1 to 2 cc. When you pull back on the plunger, also start removing the adapter from the cartridge. Getting the excess air out of the cartridge is very important.

6.    The cartridge is now refilled. It should not be leaking anywhere. External leakage means that the rubber seal is not holding or that the foil bag inside the cartridge has been damaged. Both are fatal. If it is not leaking, clean it off and set it aside. If it is leaking, you will need to get a new one or a different one that is not damaged.

7.    Clean the syringe and needle with warm water and prepare to fill the next color cartridge. Which color you start with makes no difference. Repeat the above procedure for each color. When all the cartridges are filled, reinstall them in the printer. Run a cleaning cycle and a test print to make sure everything is working properly.
